Midwifery or obstetrical forceps are stainless steel, spoon-shaped instruments designed to assist with fetal delivery by applying gentle traction to the baby’s head. They consist of two crossing blades curved to fit the fetal head (cephalic curve) and the maternal pelvis (pelvic curve), connected by a locking mechanism, allowing the operator to assist in guiding the baby through the birth canal.
